Budget session: TDP protests for special status to AP
New Delhi [India] Mar 6 (ANI): The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MPs on Tuesday staged a protest in front of Mahatma Gandhi statue in Parliament premises demanding 'Special Category Status' for Andhra.
It was a continuation of their protest since yesterday when both the houses of the Parliament were adjourned within 10 minutes of convening amid protest by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MPs.
The MPs are seen holding placards with slogans like, "We demand special status for Andhra Pradesh state", " keep your promises ".
TDP MPs demanded that all the promises made earlier by the Central government related to Andhra Pradesh be fulfilled.
The decision to grant SCS was announced in the Parliament and endorsed by opposition parties, including BJP in 2014.
SCS was announced in lieu of foregoing Hyderabad, which houses employment generating industries, and such a precious clause should not be foregone for some insignificant package.
Earlier the TDP had expressed its disappointment with the Union Budget and had accused the Central government of failing to keep its promise of delivering the development package promised to them. (ANI)
