India Will Be The Agenda-Setter At Y20, Will Bring Forth Voices Of Global South: Youth Ambassador Falit Sijariya

Y20 under India's presidency will focus on global youth leadership and partnership.

New Delhi: The Youth20, or Y20, will "bring forth the voices" of those who have been underrepresented at key multilateral fora in line with India’s vision as the G20 president. Ambassador of India to Y20, a youth engagement group connected to the G20 (Group of Twenty) Summit, Falit Sijariya said the "Global South" will now get a chance to be in the spotlight.

"India would bring forth the voices of the Global South by being the agenda-setter in Y20. We have carefully chosen the themes to raise the voices that did not have sufficient representation till now,” Sijariya told ABP Live.

The activities by Y20 during India's presidency will focus on global youth leadership and partnership. For the next eight months, there will be pre-summits on the five Y20 themes along with various discussions and seminars at different universities across India in a run up to the final Youth-20 Summit, according to a press release by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

Elaborating on the goals of Y20 and how it aims to increase the involvement of the youth and give voice to their concerns, Falit Sijariya said Y20 is attempting to reach young people through targeted approaches.

“We are trying to reach both urban and rural youth through targeted mechanisms. While university connect events and Y20 Study Circles would help us in urban areas, the same task in rural areas would be done by Y20 Chaupals which would take the agenda to the masses in their vernacular languages,” Sijariya said.

Y20 India Website To Go Live On Jan 6

Y20 India's website will be launched on January 6 by the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur.

“Our curtain raiser on January 6 is going to be a big affair where Hon'ble Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Thakur would launch our website, logo, and themes," Sijariya said.

Sijariya also told ABP Live that Y20 is coming up with more events, meetings, and interactions with other countries so that youth can start to think globally and reach out to international platforms, creating a long-term impact.

Y20 India has already conducted several events at AIIMS Delhi and the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law in Patiala.
