Over 2,300 Covid-19 Cases In 24 Hrs: Is Delhi In Spot Of Bother Once Again? Here's What The Numbers Say

As per government data, the total number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus has crossed 1.77 lakh, while the death toll has mounted to 4,462.

New Delhi: With over 2,300 fresh cases of the novel Coronavirus, the national capital on Tuesday witnessed its highest single-day spike nearly after a span of two months. The capital recorded as many as 2,312 new Covid-19 cases, which was the highest daily figure in the city ever since July 4, when a little over 2,500 cases were reported. Official figures say that the city recorded 2,442 and 2,373 Covid-19 cases on July 1 and July 2, respectively. On July 3-4, the single-day spikes were over 2,500. It had dipped to 2,244 on July 5. The national capital had recorded its highest single-day spike in August on Sunday when it recorded 2,024 fresh cases. Even on Monday, 18 deaths were reported and the daily cases count was 1,358. The number of active cases in the city rose to 15,879 on Tuesday from 14,626 the previous day. On June 23, the national capital had reported its highest single-day spike of 3,947 new cases till date. Tuesday's bulletin said the death toll from the Coronavirus infection has risen to 4,462 and the total number of cases has climbed to 1,77,060. ALSO READ | Unlock 4.0: Railway Ministry Plans To Introduce 100 More Special Passenger Trains; In Talks With State Govts The significant jumped in Covid-19 cases can be attributed to government's Unlock maneuver which includes reopening of markets, offices, hotels, restaurants etc. Last week, the Central government announced the guidelines for Unlock 4 under which Delhi has been even allowed to resume metro services and public gatherings in phased manner. After once being Covid-19 hotspot of the country, Delhi witnessed a massive dip in daily cases and even the overall recovery rate of the national capital touched 90 per cent. This was attributed to a significant increase in testing through RT-PCR. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal claimed that the city was close to win the battle against Covid-19 and also thanked citizens for their cooperation. However, stats reveal that over 1,000 cases of Coronavirus are being reported in the capital city for most of the last 50 days - which experts believe is a result of relaxations in lockdown and movement of people. Fresh and active cases have shown an increase in the last several days. Delhi has seen a fluctuation in the number of COVID-19 cases since the beginning of August. Since August 18, daily count of new cases have again started going up. The number of Rapid Antigen Tests conducted on Tuesday stood at 17,000, while the RT-PCR, CBNAAT and the True NAAT test figures add up to 7,198. The total number of tests done till date in Delhi stands at 16,07,683. The number of tests done per million, as on Tuesday, was 84,615.
