Xbox users won’t need a console anymore to play their favourite games on Samsung smart TVs and monitors, as Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will be getting access to the Xbox app on Samsung’s display offerings released in 2022. Microsoft on Thursday made several new announcements, including new gaming features for Windows 11 and Microsoft Edge, Xbox Cloud Gaming’s ability to let users stream games purchased outside the Game Pass library, and the company’s custom Xbox controller design service — Xbox Design Lab — expanding to 11 new countries (India still not a part of the list). However, it is the Xbox Cloud Streaming service support on Samsung screens that promises to be the most exciting, as it really removes the need to own an Xbox console or even a PC to enjoy Game Pass titles.

As per Microsoft, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will gain access to the Xbox app on Samsung smart TVs and monitors released in 2022, starting June 30 in 27 countries. So far, apart from Xbox consoles, the Xbox app was available on PC, mobiles, and tablets.

While the development is exciting, it doesn’t come as a surprise, as last year, Microsoft shared its vision to bring the Xbox app to smart TVs. Now, the tech giant has taken the first step in that direction, with its partnership with Samsung. More TV brand tie-ups are expected in the coming months.

The Xbox app on Samsung TVs will be compatible with Xbox Wireless Controller, Xbox Adaptive Controller, Elite Series 2 Controller, and interestingly, the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller.

Here’s how to access the Xbox app on Samsung TVs:

•On your TV, open the Samsung Gaming Hub.
•Access the Xbox app. It should show up automatically on compatible TVs.
•Log into your existing Microsoft account.
•If you have an active Xbox Game Pass Ulitmate subscription, you will be able to access all the available titles.
•Connect your controller from the app, and start playing.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate offers access to over 100 games, with new games being added regularly. You will also get day-one access to Xbox Game Studios titles. It also includes free access to EA Play.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is priced at Rs 499 per month.
