EXPLAINED | PlayStation To Launch New PS Plus Plans In India On June 23: Which One Should You Pick?

PlayStation Plus Essential, PlayStation Plus Extra, or PlayStation Plus Deluxe — which one is best suited for your gaming needs?

PlayStation Plus subscription plans will be revamped in India starting June 23. Earlier, PS Plus subscribers got access to three free games — a mix of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 titles — as well as online gaming support at Rs 499 per month, or at Rs 2,999 for 12 months. Now, Sony has introduced three new tiers of PS Plus subscriptions, which will offer access to a massive catalogue of free games and will also let players explore classic games from the previous PlayStation generations.

So, who are the new PS Plus plans best suited for? In this article, we will discuss everything you need to know about the new PS Plans, their prices, their offerings, and everything else.

PS Plus plans: What are the new plans?

Starting June 23, the PS Plus subscriptions will be divided into three tiers — PlayStation Plus Essential, PlayStation Plus Extra, and PlayStation Plus Deluxe.

PS Plus Essential: Price

In India, PS Plus Essential is priced at Rs 499 per month, Rs 1,199 for three months, and Rs 2,299 for 12 months.

PS Plus Essential: Offerings

PS Plus Essential will offer the same benefits that the current PS Plus plan is offering. You will get two PS4 games and one PS5 game for free each month, along with online multiplayer access, exclusive discounts, and more.

PS Plus Essential: Who is it suited for?

The PS Plus Essential plan is best suited for those who have already been gaming on the PlayStation for years now, and already own a vast catalogue of popular games.

Also, if you have other additional gaming platforms, like PC or Xbox, and don’t game on PlayStation frequently, this plan could also be suitable for you. It will give you access to multiplayer games, so it’s perfect for your FIFA and Call of Duty matchups. There are many users who don’t wish to explore a whole lot of games beyond the usual few titles. This plan could prove to be suitable for them. You will still keep on getting three free games each month as an added bonus.

PS Plus Extra: Price

The mid-tied PS Plus Extra is priced at Rs 749 for a month, Rs 1,199 for three months, and Rs 4,999 for 12 months.

PS Plus Extra: Offerings

Apart from the Essential plan benefits, the Extra plan will also offer access to the “Game Catalog,” which will provide access to a plethora of original and third-party games, from Red Dead Redemption 2 to Ghost of Tsushima, to name a few. You can download and play the games anytime you want.

PS Plus Extra: Who is it best suited for?

This plan could prove to be beneficial for first-time PlayStation users, who don’t own a huge repertoire of games just yet. Not only will you get access to your favourite multiplayer games, but you will also get to explore dozens of more games that are best experienced on a PlayStation, from the likes of Marvel’s Spider-Man to God of War.

As mentioned, if you are only looking to play the regular multiplayer titles and don’t wish to explore massive single-player campaigns, it would be best to stick to PS Plus Essential.

PS Plus Deluxe: Price

PS Plus Deluxe will be priced at Rs 849 for a month, Rs 2,299 for three months, and Rs 5,749 for 12 months.

PS Plus Deluxe: Offerings

PS Plus Deluxe will have all the benefits from the Essential and Extra plans. Additionally, it will let users gain access to game trials as well as a collection of “definitive games” from the previous generations via Sony’s “Classic Catalog.” The games on offer include titles such as Crash Bandicoot, Ratchet & Clank, and more.

The PS Plus Deluxe plan is dubbed PS Plus Premium in some countries, especially where Sony’s game streaming service, or PlayStation Now, is available. The service allows you to stream games straight on your console, without having to wait for long download times. It should be noted that game streaming is not available in India as of yet. If it does launch in the country sometime in the future, it can be expected that the service will be added as a part of PS Plus Deluxe.

PS Plus Deluxe: Who is it best suited for?

This one is for devout fans of PlayStation. The Deluxe plan is the most exciting of the lot, as it doesn’t only give you access to the PS Plus Extra catalogue of games, but will also let you play iconic titles from the previous generations. These games will not only have amped-up graphics and a better UI, but will also let you save a game whenever you want, to let you take a break as and when needed.

However, not many might be interested in older games. And it’s completely understandable. Gaming is matter of choice. While some might find beauty in 8-bit character designs, some might prefer to get lost in worlds filled with AAA graphics and gorgeous ray-tracing.

It all boils down to one simple query — what kind of games do you want to play?

If you wish to only play multiplayer games and don’t mind a couple of free games every month, PS Plus Essential is right for you. If you want to explore more and more games regularly, PS Plus Extra could be a suitable fit. And lastly, if you swear by gaming on the PlayStation and wish to explore everything that Sony has to offer from the previous as well as the current generation, PS Plus Deluxe is what you should go for.
