GTA 6 To Deliver 60 FPS On Next-Gen Consoles Only? PS5/Xbox Series X Focus Leaves Older Consoles In The Dust

GTA 6 is being built for newer consoles, and that might spell trouble for older systems. Rockstar hasn’t confirmed who’s in or out, but the hints suggest a big shift is coming.

Whispers about GTA 6's release continue to stir up excitement, but a recent update has thrown a curveball at fans. It seems Rockstar Games is aiming high with the game’s performance, possibly too high for certain consoles to keep up.

While the game is set to release in 2025, new reports hint at performance ambitions that could quietly rule out older hardware. For many players, especially those who’ve stuck with last-gen systems, this raises a big question: will their console be ready for what’s coming?

The Twist: It Might Be A PS5 And Xbox Series-Only Release

According to a report from Rockstar Universe, GTA 6 is being optimised specifically for current-generation platforms like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. That has led to speculation that the game may skip older consoles altogether. While not officially confirmed by Rockstar or Sony, the signs are pointing toward a more limited launch in terms of platform availability.

“There’s been some work to ensure the game runs at 60FPS on current-generation consoles,” the report stated. Although that figure hasn’t been directly backed by Rockstar, it underscores the technical leap being attempted, and possibly, the hardware constraints that come with it.

Players With Older Consoles May Have Cause For Concern

So far, Rockstar Games and Sony haven’t confirmed whether GTA 6 will come to last-gen consoles like the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. The report strongly suggests that the focus is squarely on newer systems, which may quietly exclude older hardware from the conversation.

With no announcement denying or confirming support for previous-generation consoles, speculation is all fans have for now. But given the technical goals being discussed, it’s looking increasingly unlikely that older consoles will be part of the journey.

The PC Crowd Is Still Waiting For Clarity

As for PC gamers, there’s still silence. GTA 6 has only been announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no details yet about a PC release. This isn't unusual for Rockstar, which typically rolls out PC versions later, but the absence of official word continues to keep the PC community guessing.

Until Rockstar or Sony step forward with a confirmed list of supported platforms, fans using anything, but the latest hardware might want to stay alert. The game may be a leap forward, but not everyone is guaranteed to land on the other side.
