GTA 6 Has An Iconic Location Created By Indian Developers: Check It Out

Rockstar India, headquartered in Bengaluru, has been handed the ambitious responsibility of creating an iconic location on the GTA 6 map.

India’s gaming industry has quietly stepped into the global spotlight — this time, at the heart of one of the most anticipated video game titles of the decade. Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), the next instalment in Rockstar Games’ iconic franchise, has a significant chunk of its development anchored in India. And not just any chunk — the country is building an entire city inside the game.

Rockstar India Builds Vice Beach From the Ground Up

Rockstar India, headquartered in Bengaluru, has been handed the ambitious responsibility of creating Vice Beach, a sprawling in-game location in GTA 6. This isn’t just a side project — the studio is constructing a core piece of the virtual world that players will inhabit when the game launches.

Of the nearly 6,000 developers working on GTA 6 across the globe, around 1,615 are based in India, making Rockstar India the single largest contributor among Rockstar’s global offices. The UK, despite housing multiple Rockstar branches, contributes over 2,600 developers collectively, while the US adds another 1,400-plus. Yet, what sets India apart is not just the number of developers — but the scale and independence of its mandate.

From Support Studio to Global Heavyweight

Historically, Rockstar India has assisted in background development for blockbuster titles like GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2. But GTA 6 is a different ballgame. For the first time, the Indian studio isn’t just supporting — it’s leading a critical part of world-building.

The studio’s core strengths in open-world design, asset creation, and environment art are now being tapped to craft Vice Beach, which is expected to be a standout feature of the upcoming title. It signals a major evolution in Rockstar’s development strategy — one that distributes creative power across its international arms rather than concentrating it solely in Rockstar North, the traditional lead.

GTA 6's Global Vision, Powered by India

The shift in Rockstar’s approach reflects a broader trend: decentralised, cross-border game development. “Rockstar India has been entrusted with the full responsibility of creating Vice Beach, a key part of the map for the next game,” the press release noted.

The Bengaluru-based studio was formally established in 2016 and gained significant momentum after Rockstar acquired Dhruva Interactive in 2019. Since then, Rockstar India has steadily grown in prominence, both in scale and influence.

As the gaming community awaits GTA 6’s projected 2026 release, India’s role in shaping the game’s world is now impossible to ignore. What was once a supporting office has now become a leading force, driving a vital piece of one of the most valuable IPs in the industry. With Vice Beach rising on Indian soil, Rockstar India’s moment in the global gaming limelight has well and truly arrived.
