GTA 5 Not A Favourite For PS Plus Players? Here's Which Game Trumped It

Dying Light 2's strong debut secured it a spot as the 6th most-played PS Plus Extra game of 2024, according to TrueTrophies.

No, GTA V is NOT the most popular game out there, or so it seems. An analysis of PlayStation Plus Extra's November 2024 lineup reveals that Dying Light 2, an open-world zombie RPG by Techland, has outpaced the iconic Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA 5) in player engagement. Despite joining the service just last month, the game has quickly emerged as one of the most-played titles.

PS Plus: November's Star-Studded Lineup

The November additions to PS Plus Extra included major titles like Dying Light 2, GTA 5, Chivalry 2, Like a Dragon: Ishin, MotoGP 24, and The Sims 4: Island Living. This marks GTA 5's second appearance on the service, following a stint in December 2023.

With over 205 million copies sold as of November 2024, GTA 5 remains one of the best-selling games ever, continuing to draw millions of players worldwide.

PS Plus: Data Insights on Player Engagement

According to TrueTrophies, which analyzed activity from 3.5 million PlayStation Network users, Dying Light 2 led player numbers for November's offerings. While exact figures weren't disclosed, the report indicates that GTA 5 attracted 56.4 per cent of Dying Light 2's player base on PS Plus Extra. This outcome underscores the rapid popularity of Dying Light 2, even against a juggernaut like GTA 5.

Meanwhile, Stick Fight: The Game, another November title, ranked third, achieving 48.81 per cent of Dying Light 2's player count. Originally launched in 2017, the co-op party game continues to resonate with audiences.

A Standout Month for PS Plus Extra

Dying Light 2's strong debut also secured it a spot as the 6th most-played PS Plus Extra game of 2024, according to TrueTrophies. November 2024, as a whole, ranked second among the most-played months on the PS Plus Extra and Premium service this year, further reflecting its robust performance.

High Expectations for December

With PlayStation marking its 30th anniversary, December 2024’s lineup is poised to make an impact. While fans await the reveal of new titles, the success of November’s games sets a high bar for the subscription service's year-end performance.
