Mumbai: Bollywood filmmaker Zoya Akhtar, who has helmed movies like 'Gully Boy' and 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara', is all set to direct the Indian adaptation of Archie Comics for Netflix. Zoya has joined hands with the streaming giant for the live action musical drama, which will be set in the 1960’s in India. Yes, you read that right!
The Indian adaptation of Archie Comics will be produced by Graphic India and Tiger Baby. Guess what? Archie and his friends will travel across different continents to have a rebirth in India. Sounds exciting, isn't it?
Zoya, who is excited to direct the project, said that she wants the film to resonate with the young audience. “I am super excited to have the chance to bring The Archies to life. It was a large part of my childhood and teenage years. The characters are iconic and globally loved, which is also why I am a little nervous. I have to make sure the film stokes the nostalgia of a generation that grew up on the comic and yet resonates with the young adults today,” Akhtar said in a statement.
Zoya shared a post on her official Instagram to announce her new project. She wrote, "Archie and the Crew are about to get Down and Desi! “The Archies”. A coming-of-age musical drama directed by me. Coming soon to Netflix!"
