Mumbai: The untimely death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput sent shock waves across the industry. The actor, who allegedly committed suicide, was found hanging in his apartment in Bandra on June 14, 2020. The case became suspicious as Sushant left no suicide note.
Soon after his death, Mumbai Police started with their investigation. However, the case was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) after SSR’s father lodged an FIR against Rhea Chakraborty and others for the abetment of his son’s suicide. The investigation of Rajput’s death case is still ongoing by the Central agencies – CBI and NCB. The probe took a different turn after the link of drugs emerged while investigating his death case. The probe related to drugs was then handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for looking into it further.
Though the exact reason for Sushant Singh Rajput’s death has not been yet declared by the agencies who are probing the case, there have different turn of events in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.

June 14, 2020 - Sushant Singh Rajput's body was found in his Bandra house in Mumbai. The actor’s house help had informed the police about this. The incident took place amid the rising number of COVID-19 cases during the first wave of the pandemic. The news of Sushant’s passing away sent a shock wave across the world as people remembered the ‘Dil Bechara’ actor with eyes filled with tears.
June 15, 2020 - Sushant Singh Rajput was cremated at Pawan Hans crematorium in Mumbai. Meanwhile, actress Kangana Ranaut raised many questions about Sushant's death and she suspected conspiracy behind it. The actress had said that Sushant was mentally strong and that he could not commit suicide. Amid all these, SSR's brother-in-law OP Singh demanded to investigate the case and go into the depth of this whole matter.
June 16, 2020 – BJP MP Nishikant Dubey suspected deep conspiracy behind Sushant Singh Rajput's death and demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter.
June 18, 2020 - Sushant Singh Rajput's ex-girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty recorded her statement at the Bandra Police Station. Rhea had reportedly deleted all social media posts related to Sushant before that. The couple, who were in a live-in relationship, allegedly broke up a few days and Rhea moved out of Rajput’s place before his death.
June 19, 2020 - There was a constant debate on social media regarding the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. During this, the issue of nepotism in the film industry also gained momentum. Filmmakers Karan Johar, Salman Khan and Ekta Kapoor were also targeted by Sushant's fans. Protests were also held in many parts of the country regarding the death of SSR.
June 24, 2020 - Post mortem report of Sushant Singh Rajput was made public. In the report, no marks of strangulation or external injury marks were found on the dead body.
June 25, 2020 - BJP MP Roopa Ganguly demanded a CBI inquiry into the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.
July 4, 2020 - Sushant Singh Rajput's father KK Singh demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter to know the reason behind his son’s untimely death.
July 6, 2020 - Mumbai Police recorded the statement of famous filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the SSR death case.
July 14, 2020 – A month after his death, actress Rhea Chakraborty had expressed her mental condition through a social media post after her boyfriend Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.
July 16, 2020 – Rhea Chakraborty requested Home Minister Amit Shah for a CBI inquiry in the Sushant Singh Rajput case.
July 24, 2020 - Sushant Singh Rajput's last film ‘Dil Bechara’ released on the OTT platform.
July 29, 2020 - Sushant's father KK Singh filed a case of abetment to suicide against 6 people at the Rajiv Nagar police station in Patna. Rhea Chakraborty then filed a plea at the Supreme Court to transfer the case to Mumbai Police. Though Bihar Police reached Mumbai for investigation, reportedly, there were differences between the police workers of both the states regarding the jurisdiction.
July 30, 2020 - The Enforcement Directorate gathered facts related to the case from Bihar Police and started investigating the matter.
August 5, 2020 - The central government recommended a CBI inquiry into the death case of Sushant Singh Rajput.
August 10, 2020 - Rhea Chakraborty approached the Supreme Court opposing the media trial in the case saying that the media is criminalizing her even before the court made its decision.
August 19, 2020 - Supreme Court ordered CBI inquiry in Sushant Singh Rajput death case. The CBI took over the case after collecting all the details of the case.
August 26, 2020 – The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) registered a case against Rhea Chakraborty after the drugs angle emerged while investigating the case. The agency then started with its probe.
August 28, 2020 – Rhea Chakraborty appeared before the CBI for questioning in the case. She was interrogated by the agency for several hours.
September 4, 2020 - NCB arrested Rhea and her brother Showik Chakraborty in a drugs case related to Sushant’s death. The ‘Raabta’ actor’s house manager Samuel Miranda was also arrested. Many drug peddlers were also arrested in the case.
September 23, 2020 – NCB summoned Bollywood celebrities Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan, Shraddha Kapoor and others for questioning.
October 5, 2020 - The Medical Board of AIIMS Delhi submitted the medical investigation report of Sushant’s death to the CBI. It was reportedly clarified in the report that the actor had committed suicide.
October 8, 2020 - Rhea Chakraborty came out on bail after spending 4 weeks in Byculla jail.
November 9, 2020 - NCB raided Bollywood actor Arjun Rampal's residence in Bandra.
March 5, 2021 – NCB filed a charge sheet which includes 12,000 pages in hard copy and around 50,000 pages in digital format reportedly. 33 people including Rhea Chakraborty, Showik Chakraborty, Samuel Miranda have been named in the charge sheet.
May 28, 2021 – Sushant Singh Rajput’s friend and flatmate Siddharth Pithani was arrested by NCB in a drugs case related to SSR’s death.
June 4, 2021 – Samuel Miranda sent to 14-days of judicial custody in connection with the drugs case.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is yet to file a charge sheet in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.
