'Played Polo While Son Was Sick': Karisma Kapoor's Old Claim Against Ex-Husband Resurfaces Amid Condolences

Sunjay Kapur, ex-husband of Karisma Kapoor, shared close ties with Prince William and regularly played polo in royal circles across the UK.

Business magnate and Karisma Kapoor’s former husband, Sunjay Kapur, passed away on Thursday after suffering a heart attack during a polo match in England. He was 53. The sudden demise has sent shockwaves across business and film circles alike, especially given his long-standing prominence in both.

Sunjay, who was chairman of Sona Comstar, collapsed mid-match and could not be revived. Author and columnist Suhel Seth confirmed the news on X, writing, “Deeply saddened at the passing of @sunjaykapur: he passed away earlier today in England: a terrible loss and deepest condolences to his family and to his colleagues @sonacomstar. Om Shanti.”

A Royal Connection: Sunjay Kapur and Prince William

Not many knew that Sunjay Kapur shared a close bond with British Royalty, especially Prince William. A familiar face in the UK’s exclusive polo circles, he was often spotted playing in matches alongside aristocrats and Royals during the British summer.

His love for the sport was more than just a hobby—it was a lifestyle. He was a regular on the royal polo circuit, which earned him a notable standing within elite British sporting society.

Karisma’s Old Allegation Resurfaces After His Death

In the wake of his death, one of Karisma Kapoor’s old statements has resurfaced, shedding light on the intensity of Sunjay’s passion for polo. During her domestic violence plea, Karisma had shared, “(Sunjay) decided to carry on, leaving me behind to take care of our sick four-month-old son, just to play a Polo match with Prince William. I also realised that he had married me only because I was a famous and successful film star, which would facilitate him to be reported in the press. It came as a surprise that he always wanted to be known in public and be famous, but since he never did any deed worth mentioning, he was not able to garner any attention.”

Sunjay and Karisma’s tumultuous relationship ended in 2016 after years of public disputes and court battles.

Saif Ali Khan's sister Saba expresses grief

Saif Ali Khan’s sister, Saba Ali Khan, expressed her grief on Instagram Stories, writing, “Air India... and Sunjay. Shocking to see the news that followed. To a father and wife, son and brother, I can't imagine what it must be like for the families. My sincere condolences and strength and support to them, especially the children. Can't believe it... still.”

Sunjay is survived by his third wife, Priya Sachdev, and their young son.
