New Delhi: With outstanding opening and second-day statistics, Rajinikanth's newest film, ‘Vettaiyan’, has gotten off to a fantastic start at the box office. Industry tracker Sacnilk reports that the film's total nett domestic collection reached Rs 55.5 crore. The film is produced by Lyca Productions and includes Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan, Manju Warrier, and Rana Daggubati in significant roles. The film, released in theatres on October 10, also marks Amitabh Bachchan’s Tamil debut.


Despite mixed reviews, ‘Vettaiyan’ has done well in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. It is anticipated that the film's total domestic collection will exceed Rs 70 crore by the conclusion of the weekend. 


With opening day earnings of Rs 31.7 crore and second-day earnings of Rs 23.8 crore, the film's total nett domestic collection reached Rs 55.5 crore.


Overall, 58.53% of Tamil cinemas were occupied by ‘Vettaiyan’ on its second day of release. The occupancy rate in Bengaluru was 44.5 percent for 455 shows, while in Chennai it was 72.5 percent for 1042 shows.


‘Vettaiyan’ starring Rajinikanth and Fahadh Faasil was the second-biggest opening for a Tamil film in 2024, after Thalapathy Vijay's ‘GOAT’. The Dussehra holidays may provide a boost to 'Vettaiyan's' weekend box office returns, according to early trade reports.


Even outside of India, Rajinikanth has a massive fan following. International box office receipts for the film came to 3.3 million USD.

About ‘Vettaiyan’ 


'Vettaiyan', directed by TJ Gnanavel, has been shot in several locations including Thiruvananthapuram, Tirunelveli, Chennai, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. With music by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography handled by S. R. Kathir and editing by Philomin Raj, this grand spectacle received a lot of praise upon its release.


The film follows a government school teacher who uncovers a drug trade, leading to an investigation by Kanyakumari SP Athiyan (Rajinikanth). The screenplay is co-written by Gnanavel and B. Kiruthika.
