Vettaiyan Advance Booking: Rajinikanth's Film Lags Behind Last Release Jailer In Pre-Collection But Crosses Kamal Haasan's Indian 2

New Delhi: 'Vettaiyan' is releasing amid much anticipation. And, the Rajinikanth film as expected is showing its magic at the box office. The TJ Gnanavel film created quite an uproar with the advance bookings and a festival weekend release, however, it seems that 'Vettaiyan' has not quite matched the pre-release numbers of Rajinikanth's last film 'Jailer'.

'Jailer' collected Rs. 18.24 cr in India till the time of its first day first show(FDFS), as per industry tracking site Sacnilk.com. However, 'Vettaiyan' has surpassed the last big Tamil release; Kamal Haasan's 'Indian 2' pre-booking collection.

As per the same site, the advance bookings of 'Vettaiyan' across India stands at Rs. 11.71 cr with 6,00,410 tickets sold for 8,975 shows. While the Tamil version alone is leading by majority, the Telugu and Hindi versions add Rs. 84 lakh and Rs. 93,120, respectively.
As per reports, the film has been made on a hefty budget of Rs 300 crore.
However, Rajinikanth has a career pattern of making and breaking his own records. His last release 'Jailer' was the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2023 and the sixth-highest-grossing Indian film of the year.
It is expected that with 'Vettaiyan' now a few hours away from release will perhaps surpass Jailer's number before FDFS.

Vettaiyan first day collection estimate?
However, fans will have to wait and see how the film's opening day collection is. Prabhas' 'Kalki 2898 AD' collected Rs 191.5 crore, Jr NTR’s 'Devara: Part 1' Rs 172 crore or 'Thalapathy Vijay’s 'Leo' Rs 148.5, 'Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire' Rs 178.7 crore remains to be seen.
While Rajinikanth's 'Jailer' recorded a great box office response with a domestic collection of Rs. 56.6 crore on its release day, his movies prior to that such as Annaatthe (2021), Darbar (2020), Petta (2019) and 2.0 (2018) did not do that well.
Fans will have to wait and see how ‘Vettaiyan’ fares, given there is considerable excitement with Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan starring together in it.
'Vettaiyan' will be released on October 10, 2024.
