Kanguva Box Office Collection Day 1: Suriya And Bobby Deol's Film Gets An Ordinary Start, Earns Rs 22 Crore
Kanguva Box Office Collection Day 1: Bobby Deol and Suriya's fantasy thriller, directed by Siva, opened to a net income of Rs 22 crore in India.
New Delhi: On November 14, the highly anticipated fantasy action thriller ‘Kanguva’, starring Tamil actor Suriya, had a mixed opening at the box office. Despite the film's high-profile release, it got off to a shaky start, with many early morning shows postponed because of technical difficulties.
Directed by Siva, ‘Kanguva’ earned Rs 22 crore nett in India, according to the monitoring website Sacnilk. According to early estimates, Kanguva's debut day worldwide generated approximately Rs 40 crore rupees.
On the first day of its release, Kanguva's Hindi version had an underwhelming occupancy rate of 11.47%, despite a strong marketing push aimed at the Hindi belt. Considering the extensive promotion in the Hindi-speaking areas, this likely contributed to the disappointing domestic results. Even the 3D shows, which had almost 1,000 showings, were not very successful in drawing audiences; the standard 2D version did somewhat better, with 12.64% occupancy.
Even though it debuted as one of the top five Tamil films of the year, Kanguva's domestic opening collection placed it fifth, behind films such as ‘GOAT’, ‘Vettaiyan’, ‘Amaran’, and ‘Indian 2’.
‘Kanguva’ needs a huge weekend turnout to keep up with its enormous budget and high expectations.
