Tamil actor Jayam Ravi has been enjoying professional success with blockbuster films like 'Ponniyin Selvan 1' and '2', but personally, he has been facing challenges. In June, rumours of an impending divorce began circulating. On September 9, Ravi made an official statement on social media announcing the dissolution of his marriage with Aarti.

However, just two days later, Aarti shared her own post, expressing that the announcement had been made without her ‘knowledge or consent,’ leaving her ‘blindsided.’ Amid the controversy, Jayam Ravi spoke to Hindustan Times during an interview, shedding light on his decision and addressing the rumours.

Why Jayam Ravi went public with his divorce announcement?

"I had already sent two legal notices to Aarti in the months leading up to September 9, but she did not respond to either. With rumours swirling, I felt compelled to make the announcement public. I owe an explanation to my fans. When the media is talking about it, how can I stay silent? Since legal proceedings had already begun, I believed it was time to address the situation," said the Ponniyin Selvan actor.

What Jayam Ravi's ex-wife Aarti claimed

Talking about claims made by Aarti of being unaware of his decision, Jayam said, "That’s completely false. Both our families, as well as Aarti and I, had several discussions about the situation. After a joint discussion with our families, Aarti and I had a private conversation where I made my intentions very clear. Aarti’s family was fully aware, and I even had a separate conversation with her father. It’s unfair to say they didn’t know."

Speaking further, he said, "I don’t want to delve into personal details in public, as these matters will be addressed in court. But after working so hard to achieve what I have, I reached a point where I felt completely suffocated. When I left the house a few months ago, I left with nothing—just one car. Now, I feel like a nomad (laughs). I’ve relocated to Mumbai, though I frequently travel to Chennai. I was here for my elder son Aarav’s birthday in June and spent time with him. I remain very much involved in the lives of my children, Aarav and Ayaan. Right now, my apartment in Chennai has become my office, and I’ve been staying in hotels as I travel."

Talking about discussing his decision with his children, Jayam Ravi said, "Yes, I have. Aarav is 14, so he’s old enough to understand. I explained the situation to him. Ayaan is only eight, so he’s still too young to fully grasp what’s happening."
