New Delhi: At the age of 51, filmmaker Surya Kiran passed away in Chennai on Monday from jaundice. In addition to competing in ‘Bigg Boss Telugu’, he was well-known for directing films such as ‘Satyam’ and ‘Raju Bhai’. His representatives verified the news on X.

PRO Suresh announced the director's passing on X on Monday, writing, “Director Surya Kiran has passed away due to jaundice. He directed telugu films, Satyam, Raju Bhai and a few others. He was also a former contestant on Bigg Boss Telugu. Om Shanti.” 


 






PRO Suresh Kondeti also wrote in Telugu on X, “Director Surya Kiran passed away at a hospital in Chennai due to an illness. I pray that his soul rests in peace.”

Although Surya was born in Chennai, his family is from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. As a young actor, he made several appearances in Telugu and Tamil movies under the name 'Master' Suresh. He appeared in several films, including 'Kadal Meengal' (1981), 'Mangamma Sabadham' (1985), 'Manithan' (1987), 'Swayam Krushi' (1987), and 'Khaidi No 786' (1987).


Satyam, his 2003 feature film debut, is a romantic comedy starring Sumanth and Genelia Deshmukh. The movie was a huge hit and stayed in theatres for almost 150 days. In addition, he directed the films 'Chapter 6' (2020), 'Raju Bhai' (2007), and 'Brahmastram' (2006). He ceased performing and directing, but in 2020, he made a reappearance on 'Bigg Boss Telugu season 4'. However, he disclosed that although the movie was still in development, he intended to return in 2017.


Before the two split up, the filmmaker was temporarily wed to actress Kalyani, who was well-known for her part in 'Avunu Valliddharu Ishtapaddaru'. Sujitha Dhanush, his sister, works as a television performer.
