Anjali Singh, a 20-year-old woman was killed after her scooty collided with a Baleno car in Delhi's Dwarka and was dragged by the car for about 12 kilometers. Anjali was with Nidhi on the scooty at the time of the accident. Nidhi fled the spot which raised several questions. Anjali's body was found with her clothes ripped off and her skin peeled away.
The incident has sparked a nationwide outrage including people in the national capital who are questioning the police’s apparent lack of commitment to make the city’s roads safer for residents.
Anjali was the sole breadwinner of her family. Her father passed away eight years ago/
Forced by her circumstances, Anjali had been risking her life to earn a living. She was forced to work at events after losing her job, a Print report quoted her friends and family members as saying.
Not having a job meant fluctuating income. On some days she would place a Rs 500 note in her mother’s hand and on better days, Rs 2,000 and the family was managing on that.
As per the report, on the night the incident happened, Anjali was working at a party in a Delhi hotel. She had told her mother, Rekha, that she would be back the next day before setting out from her home in Karan Vihar at around 6 pm on December 31.
Lockdown and kidney-related ailments forced Rekha to leave her work at a school after which Anjali took a job at a beauty parlour to ensure income for the family.
Anjali, who studied only till class 9 had two sisters — one elder and another younger and both married — and two younger brothers. The family lived in a three-room set bought around five years ago.
Later Anjali lost her job and started attending events and weddings for work.
