New Delhi: Pankaj Tripathi's father Pandit Banaras Tiwari passed away on Monday, August 21, 2023. He was 98 years old.

The 'OMG 2' actor's father Banaras Tripathi died in Bihar's native village Balsand.

Pankaj Tripathi's father was suffering from age-related illness, while the exact cause of death is not known at the moment.

Pankaj's parents lived in Bihar, while the actor lives in Mumbai with his wife and daughter. After hearing the news of his father's demise, Pankaj Tripathi has left immediately for his ancestral home in Bihar's Gopalganj area.

The official statement on behalf of the Tripathi family reads as, "It’s with a heavy heart to confirm that Pankaj Tripathi’s father, Pandit Banaras Tiwari is no more. He lived a wholesome life of 99 years. His last rites will be performed today amongst his close family. Pankaj Tripathi is currently on his way to his village in Gopalganj."

Pankaj Tripathi was initially named Pankaj Tiwari by his parents after his birth. However, he chose to change his name when he was a ninth-grade student. The actor recently told Outlook, "I thought Tiwaris were meant for the priesthood while the Tripathis were educated, intellectual types. Under this impression, I changed my surname in my school records."

Pankaj Tripathi, who is currently enjoying the success of his recently released film 'OMG 2', often talks about his parents in chat shows and interviews. The popular actor's film is doing a profitable business at the box office despite getting an A certificate and facing tough competition from Sunny Deol starrer patriotic drama 'Gadar 2' and superstar Rajinikanth's 'Jailer.'

'OMG 2' has grossed over Rs 100 crore at the box office in two weeks. The film based on the importance of sex education in teenagers also stars Yami Gautam and Akshay Kumar as a lawyer and Shiv's messenger, respectively.
