New Delhi: Ever since audience taste changed during the pandemic with most movies and series released over streaming platforms, OTT has become a major source of entertainment and consumption. OTT platforms have become legit sources of entertainment and like consumption patterns across various spectrums, in entertainment too, audiences have seen a major change in taste owing to the pandemic of COVID-19. Not all kinds of films do well in theatres today. Audiences can prefer big-budget mega-starrers like ‘RRR’ to even smaller thrillers like ‘Drishyam 2’. However, regardless of these patterns, many filmmakers and actors have chosen OTT platforms for streaming their films.

Freddy


Starring Kartik Aaryan and Alaya F in the lead, this Shashanka Ghosh directorial has been garnering a lot of attention and appreciation ever since its release on December 2, 2022.


Qala


Irrfan Khan’s son Babil's debut as an actor with Anvita Dutt as director, Qala has stolen a lot of appreciation, particularly for its soundtrack and performances by Tripti Dimri and Babil.


Monica O My Darling


Vasan Bala’s film starring Rajkummar Rao, Huma Qureshi and Radhika Apte has been receiving appreciation for its soundtrack and stellar performance. ‘Monica O My Darling’ has also received appreciation for its story, screenplay and everything in between.


Cuttputlli


Akshay Kumar, Rakul Preet Singh's thriller set in Kasauli about a psychopath killer also received a lot of appreciation for its story. A lot of Akshay Kumar fan clubs also called the film his best in 2022.


Thar


This western-noir film ‘Thar’ starred Harshvarrdhan Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Fatima Sana Shaikh. The film on Netflix received a lot of attention and appreciation delving into a new kind of cinematic storytelling in Bollywood.


Darlings


Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah and Vijay Varma starrer ‘Darlings’ on Netflix earned Alia Bhatt a lot of appreciation for her role. Overall as well, the film was lauded for its storytelling and style.


Gehrayiaan


It would be unfair not to mention ‘Gehraayiaan’ featuring Deepika Padukone, Sidhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday and Dhairya Karwa. The film which released in the beginning of 2022 courted its fair share of controversy yet, the Shakun Batra film initiated a lot of debate and discussion among audiences and critics likewise.


The Gray Man


One of the biggest OTT releases of this year. ‘The Gray Man’ starring Ryan Gosling, Dhanush, Chris Evans had promotions in theatre style. The film also did supremely well on Netflix and is an action-film favourite this year among fans.


Jalsa


Starring Vidya Balan, Shefali Shah ‘Jalsa’ created a fair share of discussion amidst critics and audiences and garnered appreciation for its stellar performance by cast members.


Blurr


Taapsee Pannu starrer ‘Blurr’, another thriller, also received a lot of appreciation for its story and performances by the lead star cast. 


Besides the 10 mentioned, multiple other films created a lot of discussion and got a lot of love/hate. While this has been limited to majorly Hindi and global releases like ‘The Gray Man’, films from the Malayalam, Telugu, and Tamil film industries have done supremely well on OTT platforms.
