Vijay Varma Reveals Being Refused By Stylists During His Cannes Red Carpet Debut In 2013, 'We Don’t Want To Dress Anybody'

Vijay Varma returned to the famous festival this year as a member of the Indian delegation after attending the premiere of his first movie, Monsoon Shootout, in 2013.

New Delhi: At the Cannes Film Festival, Vijay Varma is looking back on his ten years of being a part of the industry. The actor returned to the famous festival this year as a member of the Indian delegation after attending the premiere of his first movie, Monsoon Shootout, in 2013. Vijay claimed that because he wasn't a well-known name in the industry during his red carpet debut at Cannes, none of the stylists wanted to dress him.

For his portrayal in Dahaad on Prime Video, Vijay Varma lately garnered a lot of praise. Vijay also went to the Berlin Film Festival in January of this year, where the series had its world premiere in the Berlinale series section. The actor gained popularity with Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy, in which he played the supporting role of Moeen.

The Darlings star revealed how stylists turned him down when he made his red-carpet debut in 2013 in a recent interview with Film Companion at Cannes. He said, "When I came here, I bought one jacket from Zara, which I could afford. But for the main event, for two events, they said you have to wear the whole suit. And I went to people, saying, ‘Can some designer come, can some stylist help me out?’ And they said, ‘Who’s Vijay Varma? We don’t want to dress anybody."

Adding further, he said that he somehow managed to get a tuxedo at the last minute. “So, a friend of mine gifted me a Zara suit, which I wore for the morning photo call. And somebody stitched me a tuxedo for the red carpet. That's how I went. When I saw the pictures, they came out on Getty Images and all these places, which I didn’t have money to buy from," he said. Vijay continued by saying that though this was his first time participating in such an event, he thought he looked fine. When he looks at those photos again now, he claimed they reminded him of a 'Marwari Johnny Depp.'

As part of the Indian delegation at the Cannes Film Festival this year, actors Esha Gupta, Kangabam Tomba, and Oscar-winning director Guneet Monga will also be walking the red carpet, apart from Vijay.
