Films based on true stories are among the most-liked genres of cinema in recent times. One such movie that garnered immense attention was Sunoj Mishra’s The Diary of West Bengal. The socio-political drama centres around the time when illegal influx of Rohingya Muslims and radical Islamists caused tension in West Bengal.

The film revolves around how a young girl names Suhasini who is forced to migrate after her parents are brutally killed in a beni ode. Well, things turn upside down after she discover political unrest in West Bengal and is forced to convert to Islam. She also becomes a victim of love jihad.
The political drama has been in the spotlight ever since the trailer dropped. The movie has become a hot topic in the country, is said to be inspired by the many true stories of young girls who were forced to convert to Islam. While the movie has been in hot waters of controversy, one can’t deny it showcases the truth. Audience have hailed the makers for showing the subject rightly and applauded the intensive research that went behind.
They have also appreciated the poignant yet strong performance of cast members and liked the camerawork that complimented the dark narrative. For those unversed, the film has been shot in real locations of West Bengal and at a budget of Ra 5 crore. Despite this, it has tried to reach maximum target audience and received warm response.
Directed and written by Sanoj Mishra, the flick released on 30th August and also starred Gauri Shankar, Dev Fauzdar and others in key roles. A R Datta has scored the music of the movie.
