Rhea Chakraborty, Brother Showik To Stay In Jail Till October 6; Apply For Bail At Bombay High Court
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) had arrested Rhea Chakraborty on September 8 on charges of procurement of drugs while her brother was arrested on September 4.
Mumbai: The judicial custody of actress Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty was extended till October 6 on Tuesday afternoon and the duo will continue to remain in jail for now. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) had arrested Rhea Chakraborty on September 8 on charges of procurement of drugs while her brother was arrested on September 4. Meanwhile, Rhea and Showik have moved the Bombay High Court, seeking a bail. Their lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, said that the bail application will be heard on Wednesday.
"Rhea Chakraborty and Showik Chakraborty have filed an application for Bail in the NDPS Case in the Bombay High Court. It is coming up for hearing on 23rd Sept 2020 before Justice Sarang V Kotwal. The details of the bail applications will be shared after the hearing on 23rd Sept," Maneshinde said in an official statement.
Rhea was arrested under sections 8 (c), 27 (a), 28, and 29 of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS).
The special court on September 11 rejected bail pleas of Chakraborty, her brother Showik, and others in the case, noting that there was no "reasonable ground" at present for not connecting the accused with the crime.

On the other hand, according to reports, the NCB has filed an application before the Sessions Court seeking 1-day custody of Showik and Sushant’s personal staff member Dipesh Sawant.
Meanwhile, widening its probe into the drug's connection in Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput death case, the NCB has also summoned Karishma Prakash, the manager of actor Deepika Padukone, and Dhruv Chitgopekar, CEO of the Kwan talent management agency for questioning.
It is also being said that the drug watchdog will also summon Bollywood actors Sara Ali Khan and Shraddha Kapoor for questioning.
So far, the NCB has arrested more than 12 people in connection with the probe into the drugs angle in the case of the actor's death. Rajput (34) was found hanging at his home in Bandra area here on June 14.
