Suriya Opts Out Of Vanangaan, Fimmaker Bala Says Decision Made In The Actor's Best Interest

Actor Suriya had collaborated with filmmaker Bala after almost a decade for ‘Vanangaan’. The actor has now opted out of the project.

New Delhi: Actor Suriya, who won the best actor national award for his performance in ‘Soorarai Pottru’, had collaborated with filmmaker Bala after almost a decade for ‘Vanangaan’. The first look of the film was also released on Suriya’s birthday but the actor has now opted out of the project.

Bala on Sunday released a statement confirming Suriya’s exit from the film. He said that after a few changes in the script he feels that the story is not suitable for Suriya.

The statement read, “I wanted to direct a movie called Vanangaan with my brother Suriya. But due to some changes in the story, I now have doubts whether this story will be suitable for Suriya. He has full faith in me and in this story. It is my duty as a brother to not cause any embarrassment to my younger brother who has so much love, respect and trust. So, both of us have discussed and unanimously decided that Suriya will withdraw from the movie. It was a decision he made in his best interest, although he was saddened by it,”

Bala also said that he will work with Suriya in the future. “The Suriya that I saw in Nandha; the Suriya that you saw in Pithamagan, we both will get together something similar at the right time, for sure.”

‘Vanangaan’ was supposed to be produced by the actor’s 2D Entertainment, now with Surya leaving the project, his production company will no longer be bankrolling the film.

Suriya and Bala had worked together in ‘Nandha’ and ‘Pithamagan’.

Suriya is also making his Bollywood debut as a producer with the Hindi remake of Soorarai Pottru, starring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar. The actor also has a cameo in the Hindi version.

Early this year, Suriya was inducted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the body that presents the Oscars each year. With the invite, Suriya, became the first South Indian actor to be inducted into the Academy till date.
