Sujoy Ghosh made a successful comeback with his 2019 mystery thriller 'Badla', following the disappointment of his 2016 production 'Teen'. 'Badla' was Ghosh’s eighth film and his fourth box-office hit. Made on a budget of Rs 20 crore, the film went on to gross Rs 140 crore worldwide. The mystery thriller starred Amitabh Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu, and Amrita Singh in key roles.

Recently, Ghosh shared behind-the-scenes insights, emphasizing Big B's dedication during filming, as he rehearsed tirelessly even while the rest of the crew became fatigued.

How Amitabh Bachchan rehearsed for Badla

In an interview with Mashable India, Ghosh was shown a picture of himself with Amitabh Bachchan from the 'Badla' set. Reflecting on that moment, he said, “Sir has been a significant figure in my life. In this scene, he was rehearsing for what must have been the 16th or 17th time. Everyone else was exhausted and had dozed off; Taapsee had nearly fainted in a corner. But sir insisted, ‘Let’s do this,’ and kept rehearsing.”

When shown another photo featuring Taapsee Pannu, Ghosh humorously commented, “You should ask Taapsee what she made me do. I have no words for her—she comes up with some stupid ideas. I don’t take any responsibility for her antics. She’s crazy, but I love her, so I end up doing stupid things.”

Speaking about how 'Badla' came to be, Ghosh revealed, “The film happened because of Taapsee. She initially brought the script to me, but I declined to direct it at first. Later, Akshay and Sunil approached me with the same project, saying they were making changes. I agreed to direct it on the condition that I could cast Amit ji and rewrite the script. Once they agreed, I took on the project.”

The story of 'Badla' revolves around a London-based businesswoman accused of murdering her lover. The film also featured Amrita Singh in a pivotal role, marking her return to the big screen after a brief appearance in the 2017 film 'Hindi Medium'. Singh was last seen in the 2022 film 'Heropanti 2'.
