Chennai: SP Balasubrahmanyam left for his heavenly abode on Friday at 1:04 PM in MGM Healthcare in Chennai. Confirming the news of his passing away, his son SP Charan thanked all the hospital staff for their service and support. The ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ singer’s body was to his residence from the hospital where his fans were allowed to have a last glimpse of their favourite. His mortal remains were later taken in a van to his farmhouse at Thamaraipakkam where his last rites will be held.

According to a report of ANI, on account of the legendary singer’s funeral, elaborate security arrangements have been made and around 500 police personnel have been deployed. To take care of the traffic issues, a separate traffic police team is also present.

Aravindan, SP Thiruvallore told ANI, “Today, on account of the funeral of SP Balasubrahmanyam, we have made elaborate security arrangements. We have deployed around 500 personnel, separate traffic police team is also there to take care of traffic issues”


Veteran director Bharathiraja and singer Mano attended the funeral. The director was also present at the hospital last evening. Andhra Pradesh Minister Anil Kumar also paid his last respects to the late singer.

Many known personalities from inside and outside the film industry mourned the loss of the veteran singer including PM Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind, Home Minister Amit Shah, Lata Mangeshkar, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, and many others. Music composer A.R. Rahman also paid a musical tribute to SP Balasubrahmanyam.

Besides being a fantastic singer, SPB was also a music director, an actor, and a producer. He is survived by his wife Savitri, daughter Pallavi and son SP Charan, who is also a singer and a producer.
