Shahid Kapoor extended support to the Bollywood dancers, who have been affected due to the lack of work amid COVID-19 crisis.
New Delhi: Several Bollywood celebrities, including Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn and Varun Dhawan, have been relentlessly trying to help people affected by the pandemic-induced lockdown. Actor Shahid Kapoor on Wednesday came to the rescue of 40 daily-wage Bollywood dancers, who were severely affected by the lockdown, according to a report in Times of India.
Raj Surani, a former Bollywood dancer, who now helps dancers connect with filmmakers, was quoted as saying, “Shahid Kapoor recently transferred money to the bank accounts of dancers he has worked with. He has stated that he will help them for the next 2 to 3 months.”
Dancers who worked with him from his initial days were shortlisted. “It has been 17 years and they are in a bad condition, they may not be working right now. Apart from them we have even included those dancers who worked in Dhating Nach, Shaandaar and Agal Bagal,” he added.
As per the report, Shahid has helped 20 dancers from choreographer-turned-director Ahmed Khan's group and 20 from choreographer Bosco Martis' troop.
On professional front, the 'Jab We Met' actor was last seen opposite Kiara Advani in the remake of Sandeep Vanga’s Arjun Reddy in 2019. The 'Haider' star was shooting for his upcoming film Jersey in Chandigarh before the Covid-19 lockdown began. The film will feature Mrunal Thakur and Shahid Kapoor's father Pankaj Kapur.
Jersey is a remake of Telegu sports drama that was written and directed by Gowtham Tinnanuri and released in 2019.
