The Shah Rukh Khan-starrer 'Raees' may not have fully met commercial expectations, but Shah Rukh gave his all to the project. In a recent interview, director Rahul Dholakia shared how Shah Rukh’s knee injury caused him significant discomfort while filming the movie’s action sequences. Despite the pain, Shah Rukh’s determination impressed Rahul, as he pushed through multiple takes without complaint.

When Shah Rukh Khan shot Raees despite injury

Speaking to Mashable India, Rahul said, “Shah Rukh had a knee problem. His knee would swell up. And we had to do action. Shah Rukh had a big knee problem and it was extremely painful. I was like, ‘How will you do this?’ He said ‘chinta mat kar yaar, main kar lunga (don’t worry, I will do it)’ and the way he would land his foot. When we did retakes, I would tell the action director ‘let it be’, but Shah Rukh would say, ‘Don’t worry, I will do it yaar’.”

He explained that although Shah Rukh could have easily delayed the shoot, he chose not to.

Rahul also highlighted Shah Rukh’s secure nature as an actor, saying, “Shah Rukh makes you feel very comfortable. He is not an insecure actor. He is not an insecure human being also and he is encouraging. He is on your side.”

Additionally, Rahul shared that he initially did not want any songs in the film, but Shah Rukh and producer Ritesh Sidhwani had other ideas. “I never liked songs in my film. Doesn’t make sense. In 'Raees' also, I wrote in the screenplay that there should not be a song here. Ritesh and Shah Rukh looked at each other and said ‘Matlab?’ I said they should not be here. They said, ‘Your film won’t last a day’. I said, ‘Why? What do songs have to do with movies?’ They said, ‘You are new to this commercial film experience’,” Rahul recalled.

'Raees' also featured Mahira Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in key roles.
