James Bond Actor Sean Connery Passes Away; Here Are His TOP Non-Bond Films That All Cinephiles Should Watch

Sir Sean Connery played the role of James Bond in seven films. Here are some of his most memorable non-Bond films from his star-studded career.

New Delhi: Veteran actor Sean Connery, who was the first actor play the role of the James Bond in films, passed away on October 31, a report in AFP said. He was 90. Sean featured in seven James Bond films including 'Dr. No', 'You Only Live Twice' and 'Diamonds Are Forever'. Connery was awarded the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance a tough Chicago police officer in The 'Untouchables' in 1988. He was also the recipient of two BAFTA Awards and three Golden Globes Awards. Several Hollywood and Bollywood celebrities took to social media to mourn Connery's death. Hugh Jackman, fondly known for his role as Wolverine in the X-Men film series, tweeted, "I grew up idolizing #SeanConnery. A legend on screen, and off. Rest In Peace."
Irish actor Liam Cunningham, who worked with Sean in 'First Knight', wrote,"This man was really good to me. They say don’t meet your heroes. He exceeded all expectations. RIP Sean."
Singer Adnan Sami wrote, "This is so heartbreaking... Sir Sean Connery, one of my childhood favourite actors has passed away. He was an amazing actor & amongst his many iconic roles, he was indeed, the best James Bond EVER!! May his soul rest in peace."

Sean Connery was regarded as one of the most gifted actors of all time. He might have shot to fame after playing the iconic role of James Bond but he has proved his acting prowess in several films. Some of his notable films include 'Marnie', 'The Man Who Would Be King', 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade', to name a few. In this special segment, we will have a look at some of his best performances in films (other than James Bond flicks). Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade (1989) Sean Connery played the role of  Henry Jones, Sr in Steven Spielberg's 'Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade'. His impeccable performance as Harrison Ford's on-screen father in the action adventure drama won several hearts. Sean received a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the flick. The movie revolved around on Indiana's searches for his father, who was kidnapped by Nazis. Connery fitted his role perfectly and managed to woo the audience. Interestingly, Sean was only twelve years older than his on-screen son. The Untouchables (1987) Sir Sean Connery bagged an Oscar for his power-packed performance as Jimmy Malone in Brian De Palma's 'The Untouchables'. The crime drama, which was based against the backdrop of Prohibition era in the USA, also starred  Kevin Costner and Charles Martin Smith. Kevin's character Elliott Ness teamed with Malone (played by Sean Connery) to bring Al Capone (Robert De Niro) down. The Hill (1965) Sidney Lumet's 'The Hill', which was set in an army prison in North Africa, revolved around a group of prisoners who were tortured by the 'power-hungry' guards. Sean Connery, who essayed the role of Jo Robert, was seen as the lead in the war drama film. Joe was a former squadron sergeant major, who was convicted of assaulting his commanding officer. The film also starred Harry Andrews and Ossie Davis in key roles. The Rock (1996) Age is just a number and Sean Connery proved this saying. The actor cemented his legacy as one of the greatest action stars of all time with his performance in Michael Bay's 'The Rock'. The action thriller emerged as the fourth-highest grosser of 1996. The film was about a group of rogue US Force Recon Marines, who took the tourists under hostage at an island and then warned to release nerve gas filled pickets if their demands are not fulfilled.  Sean Connery played the role of SAS Captain John Patrick Mason, who had to team up with Dr. Stanley Goodspeed (Nicolas Cage) to stop the evil minds from executing the plan. Marnie (1964) Sean played the character of Mark Rutland in Alfred Hitchcock's Marnie opposite Tippi Hedren (Marnie). Mark married Marnie, who dealt with psychological issues regarding men and helped her come to terms with her past trauma. The story is not as simple as it sounds. Both Sean and Tippi received praises for their performance in the psychological thriller film. Connery portrayed the role of British agent 007 with ease in James Bond films like 'Dr. No',  'From Russia With Love', 'Goldfinger', 'Thunderball', 'You Only Live Twice' and 'Diamonds Are Forever'. His flamboyant personality and acting chops made several hearts skip a beat. Indeed, he set the standard for the other actors, who played the role of a spy in different James Bond films.
