Sanju: NOT Ranbir Kapoor but THIS popular actor was producer’s first choice for Sanjay Dutt’s role

New Delhi: Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor has left everyone impressed with his brilliant transformation as Sanjay Dutt in Rajkumar Hirani’s 'Sanju'. Even the ‘Khalnayak’ actor himself believes the Kapoor lad is perfect for the role.  But do you know the ‘Ae Dil Hai Muskil’ actor was not the first choice to play Sanjay Dutt in his biopic? Sanju’s producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra while talking to a leading daily said that it was Hirani’s idea to cast Ranbir as Sanjay for the film but he was not happy with the decision. The ‘PK’ producer said that he thought Ranveer Singh was well-suited for the role and would do justice to the ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’ actor’s biopic. “When he told me about Ranbir, I wasn’t happy at all. I thought someone else, like Ranveer Singh, could play this role much better. I thought Ranveer had the flamboyance, the emotional depth as well as the ability to change himself completely to play Sanjay Dutt,’’ Chopra told Telegraph.

Chopra also said that Rajkumar Hirani was conviced that Ranbir would be perfect for the role. ‘’But Raju was adamant that Ranbir would be perfect. And when we started shooting and Ranbir became Sanjay Dutt, I had to kind of eat my words. I think I can best sum this up by saying that Ranbir has become Sanjay Dutt both in swagger and soul,’’ the popular filmmaker added. Ranbir Kapoor in a still from Sanju Sanju, which brings the facets of Sanjay Dutt’s life on the big screen will release on June 29. The much-awaited flick also stars Paresh Rawal, Anushka Sharma, Sonam Kapoor, Manisha Koirala, Vicky Kaushal in key roles. The trailer of the film has increased the anticipation among the movie buffs who are eagerly waiting for Sanju to hit the silver screens.
