Ranbir Kapoor Pips Ranveer Singh, To Play Lead Role In Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Baiju Bawra’?

Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali made an announcement last year that he will be coming up with two new projects back to back – ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ and ‘Baiju Bawra’. Read on.

New Delhi: It is a dream for the actors to work with one of the finest directors of our country- Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Ranbir Kapoor was lucky enough to make his debut in the film industry with this talented director opposite Sonam Kapoor in ‘Saawariya’. Though the film did not do well, the audience got to experience an extremely talented actor like Ranbir. Recently, it has been reported that the ‘Rockstar’ actor will reunite with the ‘Padmaavat’ director after 13 long years in ‘Baiju Bawra’. Earlier it was being reported that SLB was in talks with Ranveer Singh for this movie but that cannot happen at the moment. According to a report of PinkVilla, “Ranveer and SLB were discussing to collaborate on a film, but right now that can't happen. Bhansali will reunite with Ranbir on this one. There are two main male leads in the film, one is of Baiju and the other of Tansen. RK will be playing Baiju's role in the period drama. Recently, he even went to meet the filmmaker at his office where he verbally agreed to do the project. The actor's team is now working out the modalities.” The report added, “They aren't locking his dates as of now because they need to lock the other actors for the film and if all goes well, the film will only go on floors in the second half of 2021. Bhansali will wrap up work on Gangubai first and then plan the pre-production for this. RK, on the other hand, will start shooting for Luv Ranjan's film and then begins Sandeep Reddy Vanga's next around early 2021.” ‘Baiju Bawra’ will be a remake of the classic 1952 Hindi film with the same name. Then directed by Vijay Bhatt, this movie proved to be both commercially and critically successful. ‘Baiju Bawra’ (1952) starred Meena Kumari and Bharat Bhushan in the main leads and story revolves around Baiju's attempt to avenge his father's death by challenging Tansen to a musical duel. Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is also working on ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ with Alia Bhatt which is already in progress. Ranbir Kapoor will be next seen starring alongside his rumoured girlfriend Alia Bhatt and megastar Amitabh Bachchan in Ayan Mukerjee’s next ‘Brahmastra’ which is slated to release in 2021.
