About The Sabarmati Report
'The Sabarmati Report', which hit the screens on November 15, is based on the 2002 Godhra Train burning incident. The incident claimed the lives of 90 devotees and triggered widespread communal riots across Gujarat in its aftermath. The film stars Vikrant Massey, Raashii Khanna, Riddhi Dogra.
The film has been declared tax-free in Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat. The film has grossed Rs 33 crore at the box office till now.
Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had met the cast of the film and lauded the team for their courage in presenting the truth through the film, stating that this narrative had long been suppressed to serve "vested political interests."
Sharing his thoughts on social media platform X on Friday, Shah wrote: "Met the team of 'The Sabarmati Report' and congratulated them for their courage to narrate the truth. The film exposes the lies and the misleading facts to unveil the truth that was suppressed for a long time to meet political interests. #SabarmatiReport."
Vikrant Massey announces break from films
Interestingly, the PM and other parliamentarians will watch the film on the day Vikrant Massey announced a break from films. On Monday, Vikrant Massey stated that it was time for him to "recalibrate" and step back "until time deems right" for his return.
In an Instagram post, Vikrant Massey wrote: "Hello, The last few years and beyond have been phenomenal. I thank each and every one of you for your indelible support. But as I move forward, I realise it’s time to recalibrate and go back home. As a Husband, Father & a Son. And also as an Actor. So coming 2025, we would meet each other for one last time. Until time deems right. Last 2 movies and many a years of memories. Thank you again. For everything and everything in between. Forever indebted!”
Massey welcomed his first child, son Vardaan, with actor-wife Sheetal Thakur in February.
