Not Bollywood, Telugu Film From South Of India: Rajamouli Schools US Journalists For Calling RRR Bollywood Movie

Following the screening of 'RRR' at the Directors Guild of America, S.S. Rajamouli clarified that it is not a Bollywood film.

New Delhi: S.S. Rajamouli, who is basking in the glory that his magnum opus 'RRR' after receiving Golden Globe for 'Naatu Naatu', has clarified certain misconceptions among American media about his film. The filmmaker is currently in the news for an unexpected reason.

While discussing how he used songs in his ambitious project, he separated 'RRR' from Bollywood. Following the screening of his movie at the Directors Guild of America, Rajamouli was addressing a gathering of media. Every song, according to him, moves the story along in his movie. He made it clear that, unlike in many Bollywood movies, the songs here don't disrupt the plot.

"RRR is not a Bollywood film, it is a Telugu film from the south of India where I come from, but I use the song to move the story forward rather than stopping the film and giving you a piece of music and dance. I just use those elements to move the story forward," Rajamouli stated.

"At the end of the film, if you say I didn't feel it like for three hours, then I know I am a successful filmmaker," he added.

The song 'Naatu Naatu' received the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song. It triumphed over songs like Rihanna's 'Lift Me Up' from 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever' and Taylor Swift's 'Carolina' from 'Where the Crawdads Sing'.

One of the many wishes came true for the director recently when he got to meet the great director Steven Spielberg. Rajamouli went to Twitter to share photos of himself with the director. "I just met GOD!" he captioned the photo.

Despite being released on Netflix, 'RRR' was also released in theatres in the USA on popular demand to fully-sold theatres. It has created history in Japan by becoming the most successful Indian film to be released in theatres.
