Kangana Ranaut Asked Priyanka Gandhi To Watch Emergency, Here's What She Replied

Kangana Ranaut's film 'Emergency', is finally set to release on January 17. Kangana, who is also a Member of Parliament, shared her interaction with Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi regarding the film.

Kangana Ranaut's much-anticipated film 'Emergency', based on the historic imposition of Emergency by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975, is finally set to release this month after facing multiple delays. The film, which has stirred up its fair share of controversy, will release in cinemas on January 17, marking the 50th anniversary of the Emergency declaration.

Kangana asked Priyanka Gandhi to watch Emergency

In a recent interview with PTI, Kangana, who is also a Member of Parliament representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), shared her interaction with Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi. When asked if the Gandhi family had expressed any interest in watching Emergency, Kangana explained, “No, no, they didn’t reach out to me, but I met Priyanka Gandhi in Parliament. She complimented my work and even mentioned my hair. I then mentioned the film and suggested she watch it. She responded with, ‘Okay, maybe.’ I believe if they can look at it with an open mind, they’ll appreciate the film for what it is.”

Delay in the release of Emergency

'Emergency' faced backlash from Sikh organisations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, which accused the film of distorting facts and misrepresenting the Sikh community.

In a statement, Kangana Ranaut said she is looking forward to its release on January 17.

"I'm glad that our film 'Emergency' will finally hit the big screen on 17th January. This story isn't just about a controversial leader; it delves into themes that remain profoundly relevant today, making the journey both difficult and significant. Releasing just a week before Republic Day, it's the perfect time to reflect on the resilience of our Constitution and experience the film with your loved ones," she said.

'Emergency', which Kangana both directed and stars in, portrays Indira Gandhi’s controversial decision to impose Emergency and its far-reaching effects on India. The movie also features a star-studded ensemble, including Anupam Kher, Satish Kaushik, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhary, and Milind Soman. Co-produced by Zee Studios and Kangana’s own Manikarnika Films, Emergency promises to deliver a gripping political thriller.
