Mumbai: People from all walks of life will celebrate India’s 75th Independence Day with full fervour and enthusiasm on Sunday (August 15). The day is quite significant as it reminds us of the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters in order to gain independence from British Raj. 


Although COVID-19 crisis has affected the celebrations, one must not let the pandemic dampen the spirit. Bollywood filmmakers have produced several movies, which invoke a sense of patriotism. On the occasion of Independence Day 2021, one can binge watch these movies.

 Interestingly, two films, based on Indo-Pak war, have recently released in OTT platforms. From the new releases to all-time classics, here’s the list of movies which you can watch on August 15.  


Shershaah


Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani starrer 'Shershaah' premiered directly on Amazon Prime Video on August 12, 2021. The biographical war drama, which has been produced by Karan Johar, showcased the story of Captain Vikram Batra, who was martyred during the Kargil war. The movie has received rave reviews from the critics and audience upon its release on OTT. ‘Shershaah’ is a saga of bravery, courage and valour.  


Bhuj: The Pride Of India 


Ajay Devgn's 'Bhuj: The Pride Of India', which is set against the backdrop of Indo-Pak 1971 war, premiered on Disney+Hotstar on August 13. Touted as the biggest release on OTT, the period war film showcased the story of IAF Squadron leader Vijay Karnik, who reconstructed the IAF airbase with the assistance of his team members and 300 local women from Madhapar. The movie also stars Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Sharad Kelkar, Ammy Virk and Nora Fatehi in key roles.  


Uri: The Surgical Strike


Vicky Kaushal and Yami Gautam starrer 'Uri: The Surgical Strike' created ripples upon its release at the box office. The action film, which was directed by Aditya Dhar, showcased Indian Army's surgical strike on Pakistani terrorists in retaliation to the Uri attack on Army's brigade headquarters in 2016.


Raazi 


Who said only security officers can serve the country? Meghna Gulzar’s ‘Raazi’ narrated the tale of a young Kashmiri woman, who got married to a Pakistani military officer after her father requested her. The much-loved spy thriller is an adaptation of Harinder Sikka’s 2008 novel Calling Sehmat. Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal played the lead roles in the critically acclaimed film, which released in 2018. 


Rang De Basanti


Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's 'Rang De Basanti' focused on different sides of patriotism. The drama film starring Aamir Khan, Soha Ali Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi followed the story of a British film student, who travelled to India to document the tale of Indian freedom fighters. How a group of youngsters strive to bring justice to one of their friends (an IAF flight lieutenant), who is killed in a plane crash, forms the crux of the story. The movie also portrayed the newfound passion of the youngsters, who are inspired by freedom fighters. ‘Rang De Basanti’ received the award for ‘Best Popular Film’ at 53rd National Film Awards.
