The audience still likes to watch Bollywood's superhit film Sholay. It remains a favourite amongst the audience even today. Even today people fondly remember the characters in the film. Amjad Khan played the role of Gabbar Singh in this film. He is considered one of the most famous villains in the history of Hindi cinema. Ramesh Sippy coincidentally saw Amjad Khan performing on stage. Ramesh thought that his personality and voice were suitable for the role of 'Gabbar Singh'. In an interview in 2020, Ramesh revealed why he selected Amjad for the role of 'Gabbar Singh'.


He said, “I remember I saw an act of his (Khan). His face, personality, voice everything seemed right. We asked him to grow a beard, dressed him, took pictures. He looked just right for the part."


Actor Danny was first approached.


Born on November 12, 1940 in Peshawar, Amjad Khan was not the first choice for the character of 'Gabbar Singh' in the film 'Sholay'. Actor Danny was first approached for the role of Gabbar. Danny was busy shooting for Feroz Khan's film 'Dharmatma' due to which he could not act in 'Sholay.


Amjad Khan died on July 27, 1992. 


After Danny quit due to his commitment to Feroz Khan’s film Dharmatma, the character of Gabbarwas offered to actor Amjad Khan. Actor Amjad Khan, who played the memorable character of 'Gabbar Singh' in Hindi cinema's most famous film 'Sholay'passed away on July 27, 1992.
