Singh liked the trailer so much that he couldn't stop himself from penning down a heartfelt letter.
The hockey legend took to his Facebook page to praise the movie, writing, "THE GREATEST DAY IN THE HISTORY OF INDIAN SPORTS! INDIA participated in 1948 London Olympics AS AN INDEPENDENT COUNTRY FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME! "
The letter further read,"On 12th of August, 1948 -Indian Hockey Team Played the Olympic Finals against Britain at Wembley Stadium, London & won! It was the FIRST EVER match in the Olympics between former Champions ( our former rulers) England & ( their "GULAMS" just a year before!) INDIA and that too, in their capital city of London!"
For the unversed, Singh was one of the most important players who participated in 1948 London Olympics and helped India win its first Gold medal in Hockey as an independent nation.
'Gold' traces the journey of Tapan Das, the man who dreamt of winning India's first gold in Hockey, post-independence. India won its first gold medal as an independent nation at the Olympics on August 12, 1948.
The sports drama, starring the 'Rustom' actor, takes the audience back in time to witness the struggle of a team to make the nation proud.
The upcoming flick will release this Independence Day, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Free India's first gold medal at the 1948 Olympics.
The film boasts of an ensemble cast including Amit Sadh, Kunal Kapoor, Vineet Singh, and Sunny Kaushal, among others. 'Gold' will also mark the debut of TV sensation Mouni Roy on the big screen.
