New Delhi: Ranbir Kapoor starrer Sanju has taken the box office record by a storm. The Rajkumar Hirani directorial based on the life of Sanjay Dutt has minted Rs 34.75 crore on its first day. The flick has received rave reviews from the fans and critics and the positive word of mouth is expected to help the film rake in big moolah at the box office.


The film brought some of the best actors in Bollywood together, be it Ranbir Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala, Anushka Sharma or Vicky Kaushal. After delivering blockbusters in the form of 3 Idiots and PK, Rajkumar Hirani  has once again proved why he is regarded as the one of the most successful directors in the industry.

The first half of 2018 has turned out to be a successful for the Hindi film industry as several films like Padmaavat, Race 3, Baaghi 2, Raid and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety have done quite well at the box office. With Sanju getting a stamp of approval from the audience, the first half will now definitely end with a bang for Bollywood.

Interestingly, Sanju which released on June 29 has created several records on its opening day.

The Sanjay Dutt biopic has emerged as the biggest opener of 2018 by overtaking Salman Khan’s Race 3’s first day box office collection. While Race 3 minted Rs 29.17 on the day of releases, Sanju raked in Rs 34.75 crore.



Sanju has also turned out to be Ranbir Kapoor’s highest opener till date. Abhinav Kashyap’s Besharam which featured the Kapoor lad in lead role had collected Rs 21.56 crore.



Several biopics have hit the gold at the box office, be it Dangal or MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, but Sanju has emerged as the biggest opener for a biopic in Bollywood. While Aamir Khan’s Dangal collected Rs 29.78 crore on the first day, Sushant Singh Rajput’s MS Dhoni biopic minted Rs 21.30 crore on the day of release.
