Gunjan Saxena: Delhi HC Refuses Centre's Pleas To Stay Streaming Of Janhvi Kapoor's Netflix Movie
Released on Netflix on August 12, ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’ is the story of the first Indian woman air force officer to enter a war zone and play an important role in rescuing soldiers during the Kargil War in 1999.
Janhvi Kapoor's latest movie 'Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl' released on Netflix in July, has received criticism by many including the Indian Air Force for negatively portraying the work culture at the defence wing. However, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday refused to stay the streaming of movie on the Over The Top (OTT) platform.

The Indian Air Force last month has written a a letter to Dharma Production, Netflix and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) objecting certain scenes and dialogues in the movie and trailer over portrayal of IAF in a undue negative light. After this, the centre filed a plea seeking stay on the streaming of the Netflix movie claiming it depicted the Indian Air Force in a negative light as it showed the force as "gender-biased".
Hearing the plea, Justice Rajiv Shakdher reportedy asked the Centre as to why it did not approach the court before the release of the movie on the Over The Top (OTT) platform". The court announced that an injunction cannot be granted now as the film is already streaming.
As reported by news agency PTI, the high court has issued notices seeking respose from Dharma Productions Private Limited, directors Karan Yash Johar and Hiroo Yash Johar, CEO Apporva Mehta, Zee Entertainment and Netflix Entertainment Services India LLP.
In addition, the court also issued notice to former Flight Lieutenant Gunjan Saxena and said that she should also be made a party to the suit.

Released on Netflix on August 12, ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’ is the story of the first Indian woman air force officer to enter a war zone and play an important role in rescuing soldiers during the Kargil War in 1999.
Directed by Sharan Sharma and produced by Dharma Productions and Zee Studios, the biopic also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Vineet Kumar Singh, Angad Bedi, and Manav Vij in pivotal roles.
