New Delhi: The trailer of R Balki’s upcoming film ‘Ghoomer’ starring Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher, was released on Monday. The film is a story of a woman cricketer (Saiyami Kher) who loses her one hand in an accident, and Abhishek Bachchan plays her coach who helps her to make a comeback in the Indian cricket team.
The trailer shows Saiyami’s character getting selected for the national team. She then meets with a car accident and loses her right hand. Abhishek Bachchan is shown as a coach who hasn’t seen success in his life. He trains the demotivated Siyami to use her left hand for bowing and prepares her to make a comeback. Angad Bedi and Shabana Azmi also star in the film. Like every R Balki film, Amitabh Bachchan is also a part of the film and has a cameo.
The story revolves around Anina, a young woman cricketer who loses her right hand in an accident on the eve of her international cricketing debut. A failed and frustrated cricketer enters her life and trains him to make her play for the Indian cricket team again as a bowler.
The story is co-written by Balki, known for ‘Cheeni Kum’ and ‘Ki and Ka’, with Rahul Sengupta and Rishi Virmani. The film is inspired by the life of Hungarian right-hand shooter Karoly Takacs. He won two Olympic gold medals using his left hand after his right hand was injured.
Talking about the film, Balki told PTI at the 53rd International Film Festival of India, “I suggested let’s make it a cricket film rather than a shooting film as people will take a lot of time to understand (the sport). If I’m doing (just) a cricket film, what would I give back to cricket or the sport? We did a lot of research and actually came up with a new delivery, which cricket has not seen… So, that’s interesting.”
‘Ghoomer’, which will open the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne on August 12, will release on August 18, in cinemas.
