New Delhi: Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel's 'Gadar 2' broke all box office records on day three of its release, earning the second-highest opening weekend in Bollywood this year behind Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan. 'Gadar 2' has reportedly made Rs 52 crore on its third day of release, following a stunning Rs 40 crore opening and Rs 43 crore in box office earnings on Saturday.
The movie has currently earned Rs 133 crore. 'Gadar 2', which released on Friday, is a follow-up to the popular 2001 blockbuster film 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha'. 'OMG 2' and 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani' are still unable to match 'Gadar 2' at the box office.
With its massive receipts, the sequel has been able to set a record at the box office. 'Gadar 2' made a staggering Rs 52 crore on its opening Sunday in theatres, August 13, 2013. As a result, the movie's first weekend revenue totals Rs 135.18 crore. On August 13th, 'Gadar 2' had an overall occupancy rate of 85.29 percent.
In 'Gadar 2,' Tara Singh is seen crossing the border in a risky attempt to save his son, Utkarsh Sharma, who is being held captive in Pakistan. 'Gadar 2' masterfully builds on its predecessor's enthralling action sequences while portraying Tara Singh's unrelenting rage towards those encouraging animosity between India and Pakistan. 'Gadar 2' is set in Lahore in the year 1971.
It is a follow-up to the 2001 movie 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha,' which was centred around the partition of India in 1947. According to reports, Boota Singh, an ex-soldier in the British army, served as a loose inspiration for the movie. He was well-known for his sad romance with Zainab, a Muslim girl he saved from violence at the time.
Directed by Anil Sharma, the film stars Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, Utkarsh Sharma and Seerat Kaur.
