COVID-19: Singer SP Balasubrahmanyam Shifted To ICU, Put On Life Support; Condition Critical
Veteran singer SP Balasubrahmanyam had tested positive for COVID-19 a few days ago. He has been put on life support after his condition deteriorated.
New Delhi: Veteran playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam, who tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month, has been put on life support after his condition deteriorated on Thursday (August 13). The singer has been moved to the ICU and is currently under doctor’s observation. The hospital authorities have said that Balasubrahmanyam's condition is critical at the moment.

"There has been a setback in the health of Thiru SP Balasubrahmanyam who had been admitted at MGM healthcare for symptoms of COVID since 5th August 2020. In a late night development on August 13, 2020 his condition has deteriorated. And based on the advice of the expert medical team attending to him, he has been moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and he is on life support and his condition remains critical. He is currently under observation by the team of experts from critical care and his haemodynamic and clinical parameters are being closely monitored.” MGM Healthcare hospital said in a statement.
The 74-year-old singer had shared a video from hospital on August 5 to inform his fans that he was diagnosed with COVID-19.
Several celebs including cricketer R Ashwin and actress Radikaa Sarathkumar took to social media to pray for the singer's speedy recovery.
"Omg!! My prayers for the great SPB to recover. #SPBalasubrahmanyam," Ashwin tweeted.
Radikaa Sarathkumar wrote, "My prayers to #SPBalasubrahmanyam sir for a speedy recovery."
Balasubramaniam, who has crooned over 40,000 songs in 16 languages, is the recipient of civilian awards like Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. The singer shot to fame in the Hindi film industry with his songs in 'Ek Duuje Ke Liye'.
The National Film Awards winner has sung several songs for Salman Khan in his films like 'Maine Pyar Kiya', Hum Aapke Hain Kaun', 'Hum Saath-Saath Hain', to name a few.
