Chhaava Box Office Collection Day 1: Vicky Kaushal has delivered the biggest opening of his career with Chhaava, where he portrays the legendary Sambhaji Maharaj. The Laxman Utekar directorial, which hit theaters on February 14, has emerged as the highest Hindi opener of 2025, collecting a massive Rs 33.10 crore at the domestic box office on its first day, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.

A Record-Breaking Opening for Vicky Kaushal

With this impressive start, Chhaava has surpassed all of Vicky’s previous box office records as a lead actor. Before this, his biggest opener was Bad Newz, which earned around ₹8 crore on its first day. Remarkably, Chhaava’s opening-day collection is nearly equal to the combined total of his last six theatrical releases:

  • Bad Newz – ₹8 crore

  • Sam Bahadur – ₹5 crore

  • The Great Indian Family – ₹1 crore

  • Zara Hatke Zara Bachke – ₹5 crore

  • Bhoot Part One: The Haunted Ship – ₹5 crore

  • Uri: The Surgical Strike – ₹8 crore

Beating Sky Force to Become 2025’s Biggest Hindi Opener

Before Chhaava, the biggest Hindi opener of 2025 was Sky Force, starring Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya, which collected ₹15.3 crore on its first day.

However, the film faced controversy as trade analyst Taran Adarsh accused the makers of indulging in block bookings—a practice where producers purchase large numbers of tickets themselves to artificially boost box office figures. Despite this, Sky Force managed to collect over ₹111 crore during its theatrical run.

Occupancy and Competition at the Box Office

Released on Valentine’s Day, Chhaava performed exceptionally well in key regions:

  • Mumbai Region – Over 1,300 shows with an overall occupancy of approximately 42%

  • Delhi-NCR Region – Around 1,300 shows with an overall occupancy of about 27%

The film is currently facing competition from Marvel’s latest release, Captain America: Brave New World, starring Anthony Mackie. However, the MCU film has had a slow start in India, collecting only ₹4.3 crore across all languages (English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu) on its first day. With mixed reviews and low buzz, it does not seem to pose a significant threat to Chhaava’s box office dominance.

Outshining Other Recent Releases

Other films that released last week, such as Loveyapa (starring Khushi Kapoor and Junaid Khan) and Badass Ravikumar (starring Himesh Reshammiya), have struggled to perform at the box office. Loveyapa has managed to earn only ₹7 crore in a week, while Badass Ravikumar has collected around ₹8 crore in the same period. With Chhaava gaining momentum, these films are likely to see a decline in shows and collections.

Star Cast and Expectations

Apart from Vicky Kaushal, Chhaava features Akshaye Khanna, Rashmika Mandanna and Divya Dutta in key roles. With its strong opening and positive word of mouth, the film is expected to continue its successful run at the box office in the coming days.
