Ameesha Patel On Fame After Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai's Success: Fans Came With Money & Pics Of Gods...

'Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai' was re-released in theatres today to celebrate 25 years since its release.  Both Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel made their debut in the Rakesh Roshan directorial. The film was a big blockbuster upon its release. From its catchy music album to the chemistry between both leads, Hrithik and Ameesha became the talk of the town and stars in no time.

Recently, in an interaction with News18 Showsha, Ameesha, who is all set to re-watch the film with her friends, recalled how her life changed overnight soon after the film released in 2010. Talking about the 'cutest incident', she said, On Friday, January 14, Hrithik and I went to see the film at Eros (a theatre in Churchgate) as total nobodies to see the audience reaction. We knew that the film had taken a 100% opening, which means that it was running houseful everywhere but I didn’t understand its significance at that time."

“I didn’t know what a ‘bumper opening’ meant because I was so new to the film industry. Hrithik knew a little bit but it was happening to him for the first time too. Before the interval, Hrithik and I decided to go out and grab a sandwich and a drink. We exited Eros like Ameesha and Hrithik. The minute the interval broke and the crowd came out, we had to flee because everyone was hounding us. From these two kids sharing their sandwiches, we had turned into stars,” she added.

Ameesha Patel's first taste of stardom

Talking about her 'first brush with stadom', Ameesha said, "We had to leave the theatre! From being a normal boy and girl-next-door, we became sensations. Rohit and Sonia became the nation’s crush. It wasn’t an ordinary film. People took home the characters. I was numb for many, many days after that. I don’t know how it sank in. It was just surreal!"

Talking about new-found fame and attention she got everywhere she told the publication, "When the world starts worshipping you, there’s definitely a bounce in your step. The one major change is that you’re recognised everywhere – airports, restaurants, gyms. Wherever we stepped our feet, people wanted our autographs and pictures. Hrithik and I had performed live on stage for the first time in Kolkata. The stadium was packed! People were screaming, ‘Once more, once more!’"

How relevant Hrithik & Ameesha are even today

Ameesha also shed light on the kind of fan encounters she had then. "They came with money and pictures of gods and wanted me to sign them. It was crazy! I didn’t do it and till date, I don’t do that. They would also put their palms forth and ask for my autograph and go, ‘Oh my god, you touched me, we’re never going to wash our hands,” further adding, “And to think 25 years later, both of us are still iconic, giving hits and looked up to as fitness icons, feels amazing. I can only thank god and the audiences for this love,"
