Adult Film Racket Case: Court Denies Interim Protection From Arrest To 'Gandi Baat' Actress Gehana Vasisth
Gehana Vasisth had filed an anticipatory bail application in a sessions court, fearing arrest in a case linked to production and distribution of obscene content.
Mumbai: A Mumbai court on Tuesday (August 3) denied interim protection from arrest to Gehana Vasisth in an alleged adult films racket case. Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra has been arrested for the same case, which is linked to production and circulation of pornographic content on mobile apps.
A report in PTI said that the court denied Gehana interim protection from arrest, stating the allegations against the actress are of ‘serious nature’.
Last week, the Mumbai Crime Branch registered a fresh FIR in connection with the alleged porn case, naming Gehana Vasisth and producers of Raj Kundra’s company in it.
The police officials lodged the case after an actress approached them, alleging that she was forced shoot for an obscene film for HotShots app.
An FIR was registered under several sctions of the IPC, provisions of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act and the IT Act.
Gehana had filed an anticipatory bail application before an additional sessions judge as she feared arrest in the case. The court has posted the matter for hearing on Friday (August 6). It refused to grant any interim relief to the 'Gandi Baat' actress till then.
"The allegations in the present FIR are of serious nature that accused compelled other victim to do kiss scenes and sex scenes. Considering such allegations and circumstances, I do not find this is a fit case to grant interim relief," the court said as quoted as saying by PTI.
The Crime Branch of Mumbai Police had lodged a case linked with production and circulation of adult films through mobile applications in February 2021. The police officers arrested Raj Kundra on July 19, booking him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Kundra’s associate Ryan Thorpe was arrested on July 20. The duo is currently in judicial custody.
A team of Crime Branch Cell had recorded Shilpa Shetty’s statement as part of their investigation in the case. They reportedly quizzed the 'Hungama 2’ actress for over five hours at her residence in Mumbai. According to a report in IANS, Shetty said that she was unaware about the content available on HotShots app.
