Adipurush Review: 4 Things That Work And 4 Things That Don’t For The Mythological Film

Adipurush Movie Review: The eagerly anticipated 'Adipurush', starring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon, is now playing in theatres all over the world.

Adipurush Movie Review: The eagerly anticipated 'Adipurush', starring Telugu actor Prabhas and Kriti Sanon, is now playing in theatres all over the world. Ramayan, a Hindu epic, is retold in the mythological drama. Prabhas portrays Lord Ram in the Om Raut-directed movie, while Kriti Sanon plays Sita, Sunny Singh plays Lakshman, and Saif Ali Khan plays Ravan.

The story of Adipurush starts with Lakshman chopping off Surpanakha's nose and the latter encouraging her brother, Raavan, to abduct Janaki. The King of Lanka then concocts his wicked scheme as Raghavan and Janaki continue to live in peace in their tranquil residence in the middle of a jungle. In a musical sequence, Saif Ali Khan's Raavan makes his entrance while playing what is likely the Ravanhatta in his cave-like home. If Ramanand Sagar's representation of Raavan in the '90s scared you, just wait till you see this modern retelling of the mythical figure, which features a vile man on a dragon's back.

We break down what works and what doesn't work for the film:

4 things that work for the film

Background score and music: The film's soundtrack and background score make up for the actors' weak performances in the scenes. A couple of elements of the movie that aren't disappointing are the catchy beats and songs like Sonu Nigam's rendition of ‘Tu Hai Sheetal Dhaara’.

Costume design: The movie, which takes its cues from old Indian culture, made an effort to maintain the traditional looks of the characters to some extent. Even if there aren't many references to go on, what we have seen on screen so far isn't too distant from this.

Mystical imagery: The film definitely does not depict a typical region that Raghav and Janaki are living in after leaving their realm. The makers granted themselves enough artistic freedom to come up with a setup that is fascinating to watch.

Crisp storytelling: The storytelling of the Ramayana is fairly simple since the mythical tales are broken down into brief, episodic chapters. Since there isn't enough time, none of the sequences dragged.

4 things that don't work for the film

Cringe Dialogues: The film's cringe-worthy dialogues are one element that almost makes you want to leave the theatre. If you thought Brahmastra was awful, wait until you see this.

Bad performances: Unfortunately, every performance in the movie is just as weak, therefore none stand out. Even Saif Ali Khan, whose character had a lot of terrifying elements, struggled to leave a lasting mark.

Mediocre VFX: The movie has received criticism for its underwhelming visual effects ever since the release of its trailer. On the whole, it is dismal, with a few exceptions here and there.

Poor action scenes: One of the movie's crucial narrative facets is the clash between Raghav and Raavan's army, but it isn't handled as meticulously as it ought to be. The overdone performance during these scenes takes away from the narrative.
