Mumbai: August 8, 2013 marked the release of Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Chennai Express’. The romantic comedy, which was directed by Rohit Shetty, created ripples at the box office, minting over Rs 30 crore on its opening day the box office. The film managed to surpass the expectations of the trade pundits, who had already predicted that ‘Chennai Express’ would set the cash registers jingling.  


Whenever the word ‘Meenamma’ pops up, movie buffs will definitely think about Deepika Padukone. Afterall, the leggy lass won several hearts with her power-packed performance in ‘Chennai Express’. The was a complete masala entertainer, which resonated well with the audience. 


It was ‘Chennai Express’, which established Deepika as the leading queen of B-town. 2013 proved to be a lucky year for the ‘Tamasha’ actress as she delivered four back-to-back hits in a year. Both ‘Race 2’ and ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ opened to packed house and performed quite well. However, it was ‘Chennai Express’, which made her the queen of box office.

With the film completing eight years of release on Sunday (August 8), Padukone is also celebrating her eight-year log reign in Bollywood. 


It’s not a cakewalk to reach the top and maintain the same position for eight years in Bollywood. One has to make to right career choices and put in extra efforts to hold on to the numero uno slot. It is generally said that B-town actresses have a ‘shelf-life’ despite the fact that they are raking in big moolah and creating ripples at the box office. The ‘Padmaavat’ actress has proved the saying wrong as she is on a roll these days.


 Deepika, who has several exciting films in pipeline, will be next seen in Kabir Khan's '83'. Her upcoming line-up looks impressive as she is working with the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Prabhas in some of the biggest movies. 


From Nag Ashwin's next to YRF's Pathan, DP will be entertaining the audience with films belonging to different genres. She also has 'Fighter', the Hindi remake of 'The Intern' and Shakun Batra's upcoming film in her kitty.
