Mumbai: The Cannes Festival is one of the major international film festivals worldwide. This year the 74th Cannes Festival was originally scheduled to take place from 11th – 22nd May, but as the world hit the second wave of COVID-19, the Cannes Festival took place from 6th – 17th July. American director and screenwriter Spike Lee was the head of the jury for the festival this year.


With plenty of options to choose from including films of Leos Carax, Wes Anderson, Paul Verhoeven, Asghar Farhadi, Sean Baker, and many more, Julia Ducournau’s film ‘Titane’ took home the festival’s top prize which is the Palme d'Or Award. She became the second female director after Jane Campion to win this prestigious award. ‘Titane’ competed with movies like ‘Ahed’s Knee’, ‘Memoria’, ‘Everything Went Fine’, ‘A Hero’, ‘Red Rocket’, ‘Flag Day’ amongst others.

Short Film Palme d’Or: Tian Xia Wu Ya by Tang Yi


Special Jury Mention for Short Film: ‘Ceu de Agosto’ by Jasmin Tenucci


Meanwhile, the opening of the film festival was with French director Leos Carax's long-awaited musical film ‘Annette’. Carax also won the Best Director award for this film.
