New Delhi: Following severe sexual offence claims, South Korean singer Taeil officially left the boyband, NCT. On Wednesday (August 28), the news was verified in a statement made by SM Entertainment, the organisation that controls NCT. According to the agency's statement, Taeil is cooperating with the ongoing investigation and has been removed from the famous boy band. They also addressed the media and fans.

SM Entertainment said in a statement quoted by Soompi, “This is SM Entertainment. We have recently learned that Taeil has been accused in a criminal case related to a sexual offense. As we were assessing the facts related to the matter, we recognized the severity of the situation and determined that Taeil can no longer continue his activities with the team (NCT). After discussing with Taeil, we have decided on his departure from the group.”

Noting that Taeil is "presently cooperating fully with the police investigation," the agency apologised on his behalf. They added, “We will provide further statements as the investigation progresses. We deeply apologize for the concern and distress caused by our artist.”

Fans’ Reaction

Fan accounts linked to Taeil have also gone dark, with some expressing sadness and others offering support to the victims.

Some angry fans have been destroying their collections of NCT’s concert passes, photocards, and other stuff since the accusations appeared.

About Taeil

Taeil debuted in April 2016 with NCT U then in July 2016 with NCT 127. He was most recently seen performing on WALK, the comeback album of NCT 127. In addition to his energetic stage persona, Taeil was recognised for his contributions to the group's experimental hip-hop songs.
