Jackson Wang Reveals Why He DMed Diljit Dosanjh For A Collaboration, Here’s How He Reacted

Jackson Wang opens up about how he DMed Diljit Dosanjh for their hit track 'Buck', calling the Punjabi superstar an "iconic legend" and major inspiration.

Global K-pop artist Jackson Wang, currently in Mumbai, has revealed how his dream collaboration with Indian superstar Diljit Dosanjh came to life. The duo joined forces for the song Buck, which was released a month ago and is part of Wang’s upcoming album, Magic Man 2, slated to release on July 18.

The GOT7 member, who calls Dosanjh an “iconic legend,” shared the story behind how their musical alliance took shape, revealing it all started with a performance at Coachella.

Jackson’s first encounter with Diljit Dosanjh

“Yeah, so Diljit, obviously, he’s an iconic legend,” Wang told Pinkvilla during a recent chat. “The first time that I encountered (him) was a few years ago. We performed at Coachella. Okay, and his set was the last that closed out the Sahara tent, and my show was before that. And after my performance, I rush down. I looked. I watched his crazy set, and I was like, ‘Oh my god, maybe one day, you know, I’ll be blessed to have a collaboration with him.’”

Years after that first impression, Wang began working on Buck. It was then that he envisioned Diljit’s voice on the track. “A few years passed by, and I was writing the song Buck. I was like, hey, Diljit is gonna sound like fire on this song. So, I sent it to them. I slid into his DM, and then I texted (him),” he said.

Wang recalled the message he sent Dosanjh: “Hey champ. So this is the song that I created. If you like it, you know, vibe with it. If you don’t, it’s all good. You know, all love and stuff.”
He added, “And he replied. He’s like, ‘Super.’ He showed me a lot of love and support, and Yeah, that’s how the collaboration came together.”

When asked about behind-the-scenes moments from the music video shoot, Wang said, “Yeah, I mean, they’re live. It’s coming out soon. There are a lot even for the music video, even we were in a shoot together, even we were doing interviews together, but currently, he’s not in India. He’s very busy with his schedules.”

Despite Dosanjh’s absence, Wang remains full of admiration. “But yeah, he showed me a lot of love from a senior. You know, I really appreciate that.”

Wang also revealed his appreciation for Diljit’s earlier work, specifically highlighting Chauffeur, a Punjabi-rap fusion featuring Tory Lanez.

This marks Wang’s second visit to India, and he’s been making the most of it. His trip included a meeting with Hrithik Roshan and his family, sparking rumors of a potential role in Krrish 4. Wang also bonded with Adarsh Gourav, star of Superboys of Malegaon, as he continues to embrace India’s talent and culture.
