Kim Kardashian Files For Divorce From Kanye West, Here's Why It Is Not Surprising

Kim Kardashian has filed to divorce Kanye West after almost 7 years of marriage. Kim is asking for joint legal and physical custody of the couple's 4 kids.

Kim Kardashian West filed for divorce from Kanye West Friday after 6 1/2 years of marriage. Kardashian West, 40, and West, 43, married in 2014 and have four children together: North, 7; Saint, 5; Chicago, 3; and Psalm, 1. The couple has reportedly been living apart for some time, with West apparently spending time in Wyoming and Kardashian West staying in California.

The move brings an impending end to one of the most followed celebrity unions of the 21st century — the marriage of a reality TV superstar and hip-hop and fashion phenomenon.

According to a report by AP, Kardashian is seeking joint custody of the children and her filing states the couple has a prenuptial agreement that will determine how their assets will be divided. It cites irreconcilable differences for their breakup and does not list a separation date.

'Kimye' became a reality after the couple began dating in 2012 and had their first child in 2013. West proposed later that year using the giant screen at the empty waterfront ballpark of the San Francisco Giants, and the two married May 24, 2014, in a ceremony at a Renaissance fortress in Florence, Italy.

Why the end of 'Kimye' is not surprising?

West announced on the Fourth of July that he was running for president on the Birthday Party ticket. Later that month, he mentioned divorce at a rally in South Carolina, where he discussed, among other things, how he and Kardashian considered abortion after she revealed she was pregnant with their eldest daughter, North. After he spilled those details, he mentioned how Kim was likely to seek divorce over his revelation.

Soon after the rally, West embarked on a Twitter storm in which he accused Kardashian of trying to fly to their Wyoming ranch with a doctor “to lock me up like on the movie Get Out because I cried about saving my daughter's life yesterday.”

Kim Kardashian soon spoke out publicly, saying in her Instagram story, “He is a brilliant but complicated person who on top of the pressures of being an artist and a black man, who experienced the painful loss of his mother and has to deal with the pressure and isolation that is heightened by his bi-polar disorder. Those who are close with Kanye know his heart and understand his words sometimes do not align with his intentions.”

This will be Kim's third divorce. She was married to music producer Damon Thomas before they divorced in 2004. She married Humphries in August 2011 but she filed for divorce after 72 days. This is Kanye's first divorce.
